Egmont Key Race - Not So Much

This past weekend I met up with the crew from Cool Change for the DIYC Egmont Key Race. The winds were extremely light to non-existent for the start and pretty much throughout the day. At the start line, all the boats congregated and waited for any little breeze to get them across the line. The race committee had a couple of options for shortening the course in the bay but once passing the last mark, we would be committed to sail to Egmont Key because there would be no place near the Skyway Bridge for turning around or adding a mark to round.

Fortunately the race committee decided to finish the race at the last mark before proceeding to the bridge. Ironically, that's when the breeze picked up and we set the spinnaker for a downwind sail back to the club. There was a lot of food, drinks and conversations going on throughout the day but unfortunately not a lot of heeled over racing. Never the less, it was a good time and nice to sail with good people.
